How to Choose Different Types of Soccer Cleats

Football can be played on different surfaces, including natural grass, the grass on the ground and artificial surfaces in a wide range of weather conditions. To gain traction with the support of the ankle while running and changing direction in live soccer game, players will choose different types of soccer cleats based on surface conditions. Soccer shoes are available in three main types – molded cleats, screw or removable, and turf shoes. For example, a football player can choose more screws to studs for the muddy surface. Molded cleats are generally used by younger players while the screw clamps are used by high school, college or professionals, and turf shoes are used on artificial surfaces.

Materials:

Soccer cleats are made from a combination of materials for the upper and only other shoe parts. The shoe upper is usually made from leather or synthetic materials, while the sole of the foot and is made of a hard plastic screw-in cleats or soft rubber molded cleats. Leather allows the foot to breathe while providing comfort, durability, functionality and flexibility. Technical synthetic materials are also used inside the shoe to control humidity by winking sweat away from the foot.

Features:

Shoe companies produce a wide range of soccer shoes with different features to appeal to different types of players. Most football boots feature a lace-up design and some models include Velcro straps through the laces. Replacement shims come in different lengths such as 1/2-, 5/8-, 3/4- and 1-inch sizes depending on conditions on the ground. League rules, however, may prohibit certain lengths.
